CGC packing guide

How to pack cards for CGC grading

CGC grades cards that arrive in good condition. This guide shows how to pack your cards step by step so they are protected all the way from your shelf to CGC and back to you.

Good packing is the only part of grading you control completely. A card that bends on the way can lose one or more grades. You send the cards to Slabbed, and we forward them to CGC with our next shipment. This packing is therefore for the journey to us in Denmark and on to CGC.

CGC itself describes that cards should be packed in sleeves and semi-rigid holders so they cannot move or rub against each other. We use the same standard for all submissions through us.

Packing step by step

Follow the four steps below and use the address from your submission. The guide shows the correct receiving address for your market.

  1. 1. Each card in a penny sleeve

Place each card in a soft penny sleeve, making sure the card faces the open side.

  2. 2. Card saver or toploader

Sleeved cards go into a card saver I (recommended) or a semi-rigid holder. Don't put tape directly on the holder.

  3. 3. Pack securely

Bundle the holders with a rubber band (not too tight), wrap in bubble wrap and place in a rigid box with padding around it.

  4. 4. Send to Slabbed

Send the package with trackable, insured shipping to the address below. Remember to include your order number.

This is our receiving address for parcels sent from outside Denmark. Always send with trackable, insured shipping, and include your order number in the package.

We do not store stock or valuables at this address, and the company's registered address does not hold collectibles or valuables.

Insurance is your own responsibility while the package is in transit to us. If you selected and paid for insurance at submission, cover starts when we receive the cards and lasts until they are returned to you.

If you do not select and pay for insurance, your cards are not insured, either while with us or in transit to the grading company and back to you. Any carrier liability is not insurance coverage for your cards.

If you ship from a country outside the EU, any customs duties, VAT and import fees on the shipment to us are the sender's responsibility to pay.

Materials and helpers

Soft penny sleeves, one per card
Card saver I or another semi-rigid holder
A team bag or zip bag for the bundle
Two pieces of rigid cardboard
Bubble wrap and a rigid box or padded envelope
Tape for the box only, never on the holders

You do not have to buy card savers yourself. At submission you can add card savers for €0.67 per card and penny sleeves for €0.27 per card, and we take care of that part for you.

Do not use tape directly on the holders. Tape can pull print or foil off the card when you remove it. A toploader alone is also not a good solution: the card can slide out of a toploader in transit.

Shipping to Slabbed

  • Send with trackable shipping so you can follow the parcel
  • Choose insured shipping for valuable cards; our cover only starts when we receive them
  • Write your order number inside the package
  • Keep the tracking number until your cards are back

If you ship from a country outside the EU, any customs duties, VAT and import fees on the shipment to us are the sender's responsibility to pay.

Insurance in transit

Insurance is optional and recommended: €2.68 incl. applicable VAT per started €135 of declared value. When selected and paid at submission, it covers the cards from when we receive them until they are returned to you. Your own shipment to us is not covered.

Insurance is an add-on you choose at submission. Cover runs from our receipt of the cards until they are returned to you.

Insurance on your submission

Insurance is optional but recommended. It costs €2.68 incl. applicable VAT per started €135 of declared value and must be selected and paid at submission. It covers the cards from when we receive them until they are back with you. A card declared at four times that value costs €10.72 to insure.

What the cover includes

Loss or damage while the cards are with us, on the way to the grading company and back to your door. Cover starts when we receive the cards; your own shipment to us is not covered, so send it tracked with the carrier's own insurance if needed. Cover follows the declared value you enter on the submission, up to the raw value of the card.

While the cards are with us

Cards are kept in a locked, alarm monitored safe between arrival, packing and dispatch. Nothing is stored loose on a desk overnight.

Documentation

We photograph every card on arrival and again before return shipping, so condition is documented on both sides of the trip.

Setting the declared value

Use the realistic raw value of the card, the price you could sell it for ungraded today. An inflated value does not increase a payout, and a value set too low limits it.

Return shipping is tracked and priced by destination country, from €17 per parcel. Shipping to us is paid by you.

If you do not select and pay for insurance, your cards are not insured, either while with us or in transit to the grading company and back to you. Any carrier liability is not insurance coverage for your cards.

Not covered: the grade itself, changes in market value, and damage that already existed when we received the card. Anything we spot on arrival is photographed and reported to you before the cards move on.

If something goes wrong, write to hello@slabbed.eu with your submission number. If you added insurance, we handle the claim with the carrier and pay out on the declared value, so you do not deal with the carrier yourself.
