Calculating Door-to-Door Grading Time from Europe

When planning a submission for card grading, collectors often look at published company turnarounds. A company might quote ten, twenty, or forty-five business days for a tier. However, for collectors across Europe, the true turnaround is measured door to door.

Realistic grading time from Europe encompasses domestic postage, international export, customs clearance, internal logging, professional evaluation, return customs handling, and final tracked delivery to your home.

At Slabbed.eu, we manage this multi-stage workflow for collectors and investors across all EU member states. Understanding each milestone helps you plan acquisitions, capital allocation, and collection management with precision.

The Four Stages of the Submission Journey

Door-to-door transit is composed of four distinct operational blocks. Turnaround times advertised by authentication companies only cover stage three.

1. Inbound Transit and Intake at Slabbed.eu

Once you pack your cards and dispatch them to our European operational hub, domestic or intra-EU courier transit typically takes between two and five working days, depending on your location. Upon arrival, your cards enter our intake queue.

Our team checks shipments against submission forms, inspects cards for package transit damage, verifies values, logs serial data, and prepares secure inventory records. Intake and cataloguing typically require one to three working days.

2. Export Preparation and Outbound Transit

Cards are consolidated into scheduled commercial shipments dispatched to authentication facilities in the United States. Preparing these batches involves creating export declarations, manifest generation, and compliance checks. Transatlantic transit, followed by entry customs clearance at the destination port, generally spans three to seven business days.

3. Grading Authentication and Encapsulation

This is the phase measured by grading companies (PSA, BGS, CGC, or TAG). Their clocks start only when the package is formally received, opened, and booked into their internal database.

Grading turnaround is calculated in business days (Monday to Friday, excluding US public holidays). Depending on the tier selected, this step can take anywhere from five business days for high-tier express submissions to fifty business days for bulk economy services.

4. Return Freight, Customs Clearance, and Final Dispatch

Once encapsulated, items are packaged and returned via priority international couriers to our European hub.

Importing graded cards back into the European Union requires customs clearance, VAT verification, and handling through designated freight channels. This return transit typically takes five to ten working days. Once back at Slabbed.eu, orders are cross-checked, re-inventoried, and dispatched via tracked courier to your address anywhere in Europe (typically taking two to four working days).

Estimated Door-to-Door Timelines by Grading Company

Because baseline service tiers fluctuate, door-to-door grading time from Europe varies by provider and service tier.

| Grading Company | Selected Service Tier | Stated Company Turnaround | Realistic Door-to-Door Time | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | TAG | Priority / Regular | 10 to 30 Business Days | 5 to 8 Weeks | | PSA | Value / Bulk | 45 to 65 Business Days | 12 to 16 Weeks | | PSA | Regular / Express | 10 to 20 Business Days | 5 to 7 Weeks | | BGS (Beckett) | Standard / Priority | 10 to 25 Business Days | 6 to 9 Weeks |

Budget-focused bulk tiers across all grading companies carry the longest queues, while higher-tier submissions (such as Express tiers priced from approximately 140 EUR to 200 EUR per card) naturally compress the grading phase.

Mandatory Insurance and Card Protection

Logistics across international borders require clear risk management. When submitting cards via Slabbed.eu, grading insurance is a mandatory paid charge based on your declared card values.

Cards are not insured while with Slabbed or in onward transit until this mandatory insurance charge has been fully settled. Furthermore, standard carrier liability does not constitute insurance coverage. Couriers provide contractual terms that cover lost freight at negligible rates per kilogram, which offers no genuine financial protection for valuable trading cards. Our mandatory insurance policy ensures that your cards carry dedicated compensation coverage from the moment they are checked into our care until they are returned safely to your door.

Factors That Influence Final Delivery Dates

Several external variables can occasionally shift delivery dates:

  • Pop-Report Spikes and Seasonal Surges: Following major trading card releases, authentication facilities experience seasonal intake backlogs, extending logging times.
  • Customs Inspections: Random regulatory checks at transatlantic customs borders can hold commercial freight for several days.
  • Service Upgrades (Upcharges): If a card grades higher than anticipated and its market value exceeds the maximum threshold of your selected service tier, the grading company will levy a price adjustment. Processing these administrative upcharges pauses the order until resolved.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the official grading timer start?

The advertised turnaround begins only when the grading company formally logs the parcel into their internal processing system, not on the day you post your cards to Slabbed.eu.

Are working days the same as calendar days?

No. Turnaround times provided by grading companies strictly denote business days. A service tier listed at twenty business days represents four full calendar weeks, excluding national holidays.

Can I track my submission throughout the process?

Yes. Slabbed.eu provides status milestones for your order, including receipt at our European hub, dispatch abroad, completion of grading, and return tracked delivery to your home address.

Why is insurance mandatory on every submission?

High-value collectibles require genuine protection against transit incidents. Courier carrier liability is strictly limited to standard weight-based carriage rules and does not protect trading cards. Mandatory insurance guarantees that your collection has dedicated financial coverage throughout its operational cycle.
